Choosing and buying timpani heads      

Q. I need some new heads for my timpani. How do I know what to buy?

     
A. Some points to remember.First you must be able to identify your drums.
  • Make (Adams, Premier, Yamaha etc.)
  • Model (Elite, Symphonic, Universal etc)
  • Year of manufacture (if possible)
  • Size of bowl-measured from edge of kettle to opposite edge.

Next you must decide on what type of head you want.

The choice is vast- clear, hazy (opaque), Renaissance calf or plastic.
